Disney World Dining
There is a lot to know about Disney World Dining. This page will help you to understand everything you need to know from what the heck are "ADRs" to the Disney Dining Plan and finally mobile ordering.
The Basics
Here are a few basic things to know about Disney Dining
Quick Service
This is the first type of restaurant at Disney World. Think of it as a fast food type restaurant, but with better food. There are no reservations required and you can use mobile order at many of the quick service restaurants. There are many quick service restaurants in each park and every hotel within the Disney World Resort area has one as well.
Table Service
The second type of restaurant at Disney World is the table service restaurant. This type of restaurant does require a reservation called Advanced Dining Reservation (ADR), more on that below. You pick a specific time you want to dine at the restaurant and if there is availability you can book it. There are several table service restaurants at each of the parks and all of the Deluxe and Moderate resorts also have one.
Advanced Dining Reservation
Advanced Dining Reservation also known as ADR is how you can make a table service restaurant reservation, this is the only way you can make a reservation at most table service restaurants at Disney World Resort. In some cases you can use OpenTable for restaurants that are run by third parties at Disney Springs but there are not many. Advanced Dining Reservations are available starting at 6 am EST daily. If you are staying at one of the Disney World Resort Hotels you can start making your reservations 60 days before the first day of your trip and for the duration of your trip, up to 10 days. If you are not staying at a Disney World Resort Hotel then you can make a reservation 60 days before the date you want the reservation for.
There is a cancellation fee if you cancel close to the reservation time, Disney has made a change recently to this window so make sure to check out their FAQ for the most up to date information.
Mobile Order
Many quick service restaurants allow you to now place a mobile order using the My Disney Experience app. You can use the app to choose a quick service restaurant either near you or you are heading too. If the restaurant has mobile order as an option you will be able to choose it. You can then see the menu and add items to your cart. You can also see the pickup time window that is available, be aware, at high traffic times and at high traffic restaurants this might not be for a couple of hours. Choose the items you want to add to your cart and then you can check out which will pay using your card on file within the app. You will then be directed to let the app know when you have arrived. Once you have arrived then the order will be started. When your order is ready you will get a notification and you will be pointed to where to pick up your food (usually a window number).
Walk-Up List
Some of the table service restaurants, which require advanced dining reservations, now have an option called Walk-Up List. If you do not have an advanced dining reservation for one of these restaurants you can instead add your name to a walk-up list. You can use the My Disney Experience app or the QR code at the restaurant to determine if there is walk-up list availability. If there is you can add your name and number of party to the list. You will then receive a notification when a table is ready. For a current list of the restaurants that offer Walk-Up list go here.
Disney Dining Plan (DDP)
The Disney Dining Plan allows you to pre-pay for your dining. When you pay your trip in full you will be paying for the dining plan, which means, in general terms you will not need to pay for your dining during your tip. There are two plans available as described below. This information does change from time to time so make sure to check out the Disney Dining Plans page on Disney's web site.
