Disney World Transportation

Getting around Walt Disney World is unlike Disneyland or many other theme parks. Walt Disney World encompasses over 40 square miles. This means there are several modes of transportation to help you so you don’t have to navigate all of those miles on your own.

Disney World Resort Transportation

Below are the different methods of transportation you can use within the Disney World Resort area, all of them are free to use.

Bus

Walt Disney World Resorts have buses that will arrive at a designated bus stop and take you to the parks and Disney Springs. Sometimes, travelers find the buses inconvenient because they often require a wait or are full.  We have used the Walt Disney World bus system during the busiest of times, including to and from the Value Resorts with 10,000 cheerleaders. Set your expectations and enjoy the ride.

Boat

There are several locations that have a boat transportation option.  One of the most used is getting to Magic Kingdom.  If you drive to Magic Kingdom, you will park at the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC).  You will then have the option to take the Ferry Boat to the Magic Kingdom entrance. There are several resorts that have a boat option referred to as Friendship boats.  These boats run from several Epcot area resorts to the International Gateway of Epcot and Hollywood Studios.  There are also boat runs from Disney Springs to several resorts as well.

Monorail

The Walt Disney World Monorail is perhaps one of the most iconic modes of transportation. It connects from the TTC to Magic Kingdom and also has stops at the Contemporary, Polynesian, and Grand Floridian Resorts. There is also Monorail service from the TTC to/from Epcot.

Skyliner

The Skyliner is one of the newest forms of transportation in Walt Disney World. The skyliner is a gondola system that connects several resorts to Hollywood Studios and the International Gateway entrance of Epcot. Don’t let long lines discourage you, they move fast. If you have a fear of heights, the skyliner might not be your favorite option.

Airport Transfers

If you are flying into Orlando International Airport (MCO) you have a couple ways to get to Disney World.

Mears Connect

Getting to and from Walt Disney World from the Orlando International Airport is easy with Mears Connect.  A bus will take you to and from the airport to your Walt Disney World Resort for a fee. You can make a reservation (which is required) here.

Rental Car

As with most airports you can easily rent a car from most major car rental companies at MCO. The rental car counters are all within the terminal however most of them also allow you to just pick up your care in the garage across the street from the airport. You can even add a rental car from Alamo to your Disney World reservation when making your resort and package reservation.

Taxi or Ride Share

As with most airports you can select a taxi or ride share as well. All ride share apps are used here so you can pick your favorite if you do not want to use either of the other options.
